Day 2 Secondary Experience

Day 2:

Today is the second day of our secondary experience. Things were still very different to normal and the classes are still so much fun. Today we focused on getting better at all subjects and trying more things. We did things like PDHPE and Peer Support.

PDHPE:

PDHPE was a interesting and exciting lesson. We talk about all the things that are going change through life not just in school but outside of school as well. During the lesson we did some fun activities, some of which were puzzles and we had to organise them into order from when you were a baby to when you are a grandparent. We also had to fill out a sheet and answer by writing down the negative, positives and averages of growing up. We think in secondary school we might face some hard changes in our lives like assignment and friend issues but we think that if we talk to a teacher, friend or relative this might become not so much of a problem and we could find solutions like getting a tutor or talking to your friend about what’s going on. We think this subject helped us to understand more about what is going to change in our lives as we get older. During this lesson we also played a multi sport game that included netball, basketball, soccer, hockey and holler hooping this game was a series of changes from sport to sport.

Peer Support 2:

Peer Support was very exciting and interesting as we played a game that involved a lot of communication the aim of the game was to throw the ball to anyone you like but as you throw the ball you must remember who you threw it to at the end of the game there ended up being 6 balls in the circle. We think that the communication part was calling there name as you throw the ball to tell then that a ball is coming towards then so they must catch it. I think the game was a perfect game to teach for communication and that they should use it again.

Deacon:

My first star is for PDHPE because we got to do multiple sports. My second star is for sport because I got to run around. My wish is that we could do more secondary subjects.

Manvir:

My first star is for sport. My second star is for PDHPE and my wish is that there would be more subjects.

Isla:

My first star for day 2 has got to go to PDHPE – it was a really great subject and taught me a lot about change. My second star is for Peer Support because I got to know people I didn’t really know better and it taught me to communicate better. My wish is to do the secondary experience again.

Tom:

My first star is for PDH because it is my favourite lesson and you get to do different sports and lots more. My second star is Project work because it is my best subject you get to write something on docs. My wish is to do more sports.

Reflection 2:

We think the days are getting better and better as they come. Most of the subjects are really different and exciting and all of the kids in Stage 3 are finding it as a wonderful experience. We think that as group if we encourage and bribe people to do their work we could successfully change secondary school in a good way. We also think that by playing fair, being respectful to staff and classmates and including others we could change the whole perspective of secondary school.

The furious 4 – day 3

The Furious 4 – Day 3.
Essential question:
How can I successfully make the change to Secondary school?

We are all prepared for secondary school and we know that it will not be an easy change but we know that we can get support from teachers and peers. We know what we are expected to do in secondary school. We can make a timetable to make it easier for homework and assignments.

In what situations can change be a good thing.

In what situations can change be a good thing?

Change can be a good thing if you know how to handle it. It is good in situations like: the move from primary to secondary because of more responsibility, more friends, and more options in subjects.

Day 1 Secondary Experience

Day 1:

Today our group spent the day in secondary. We did lots of work we wouldn’t usually do in primary, we spent the day doing Maths, Science, Pastoral Care and Peer Support.

Science:
Science was a very different experience as we don’t usually do science experiments. We learnt that everyday ingredients and objects are ACIDIC substances and BASIC substances. For our experiment we added Turmeric and methylated spirits then we put the mix on a piece of toilet paper which turned it yellow. We then cut the toilet paper into two strips. In the second cup we added bicarbonate soda and water. We put the first strip of paper into the second cup and watched it turn a different colour then we put the second strip of paper in to the vinegar cup and watched as it turned different colours. We think this experiment was fascinating and exciting as it was exciting when the toilet paper turned a different colour.

Maths:
Maths was a great experience it was different because things were harder and and we used much more mathematical words. We did a interesting marble run and used paper to form into a tube for the marble to run down then we used cups for the marble to start in and finish in. We learnt that if things are on slopes they go faster and if they are flat or straight they go slower. In the whole experience we found out that we used geometry, trigonometry, measurement, change of rate/calculus and linear relationships in the marble run. We think that this was the best maths experiment ever and can’t wait until we get to secondary.

Pastoral Care:
In Pastoral Care we did a series of placing ourselves on a better and worse scale of going to high school. Pastoral Care is a very calm and safe place as it teaches us to never doubt ourselves and if so to go speak to someone like a counsellor, relative, teacher or friend. In our lesson we filled out a worksheet that asked us about our social life on technology. We then watched a short video of some different mindsets from kids who are starting secondary. This helped us to be more confident about our feelings.

Peer Support 1:
Peer support is a great way to get to know some of the people in secondary such as the year 11’s. In peer support we did a game to help our communication. The aim of the game was to run up to Bronte (one of the year 11’s) who had a list of objects and animals she would then tell us one thing at a time on the list and we would have to make it out of playdoh. The person who guesses what it is first has the next go of forming the playdoh. We think this game was a excellent way of communication.

Deacon:
My first star goes to the Science experiment. My second star goes to Peer Support and my wish is for more Technology.

Manvir:
My first star is Maths. My second star is Science. And I wish we could do more Science.

Isla:
My first star has got to go to Science it was so fun mixing all the substance like turmeric, methylated spirits, bicarbonate soda and other substances together. My second star goes to Pastoral Care because it was so calm and safe and it taught us a lot of different things we could do about being scared of going to secondary. My wish is that our subjects would go for longer.

Tom:
My first star goes to Science because it’s great to be a scientist. My second star goes to Maths because you get to make a marble run. I wish that during secondary I could learn more things and get better at all subjects.

Reflection 1:
We as a group we think that the day was great and taught us a lot. We think that when we get to secondary school we will already have a feel of what it will look like and that it will always have a positive and negative side about it. That is why we think that by listening and respecting each other we could set an example to other secondary kids and sooner or later make a successful change to secondary school.

Can I successfuly transition to Secondary School?

Essential Question
I can successfully make the change to secondary school by getting prepared, and to get prepared I can make new friends in Secondary school by doing an experience day at the secondary school you are going to next year. You should get all the things ready for secondary school like a notepad to remind you for what could need to get done like homework, extra school work, and upcoming assessments.

Boom Shacka Lacka Science review

Science was fun because we got to mix things together and test stuff. Other than getting to mix stuff together we learned lots of cool stuff with the resources we used.

I like the way that all the test papers/toilet paper changed colour, like green/blue, red, brown or they just stayed yellow the way they were before. Science in primary school is different because we just research stuff and do all that, but in secondary school we get to mix things together. I have also made up my mind finally that I will love secondary school, because it gives you and opportunity to do stuff yourself so that when your older you can pay for food and pay bills etc.

Also secondary school will be great because we will make new friends and won’t be too lonely hopefully. The downside is that there will be lots of tests, you may struggle and you may forget where class is. The problem is with growing up is because you will go through puberty and if you move out of your parents/guardians house you may struggle to keep the house, so you wont be homeless The good thing about growing up is that you will get a car, a job (which means money!!) and you’ll have a house all to yourself and you make up the rules.

The thing thats good or bad is getting married, because you will have to pick up after your husband or wife (but mostly husband) and you may get into fights with your wife/husband, but I think thats everyone who is worried about high school just needs to relax and take deep breathes because its not like you’ll be in secondary school forever.

Reflection amelie

Learning in secondary looks like it’s going to be a fun experience. Secondary school looks very fun and interesting, I am looking forward to it.

My first day in secondary went amazingly, my favourite subject was science with Mr Hazelton. We also did pastoral care, peer support and maths with Mrs Huntley, which was really fun. My understanding of secondary school is now much clearer, I know what type of lessons we will have and how we will go about them.
*star* science
*star* maths
*wish* i could have been more involved in my maths experience, but otherwise it was fun.

My second secondary experience day was fun and I really enjoyed peer support. I think that the activity we did related to secondary school in a way that was easy to grasp and was really fun.
*star*peer support
*star*PDHPE
*wish* I could have done sport, which I couldn’t because of my knee injury.

Today was my favourite day in secondary. We did art and actually used paint. We also did technology with Ms Sackey – it was really cool. We were using Spheros which we never do in primary school, this shows that you get much more opportunities in high school.

*Wish* we could have done food technology. Continue reading “Reflection amelie”

My secondary school recflection

Sam Choi: Mr Hazelton’s Science class was fun and exciting. We also did Pastoral Care, Peer Support, and Maths. I think secondary school is very different from primary school. One of the reasons I like change is because you get new things to learn with, and you make new friends.

*star* science

*star* maths

*wish* the building of our math project went better.

Sam: PDHPE was fun and it was my best subject ever. It is the best because I enjoyed the sport part of it and I enjoyed it when we talked about the negatives, the positives, and the neutrals about changes that are going to happen in the next few years.

*star* peer support

*star* PDHPE

*wish* I could have participated in the learning part of PDHPE better.

Sam : Today was great and Mr. Watt’s art class was fun.  Ms Sackey’s Sphero class was great and coding the Sphero was fun too. I have never gotten to do anything like what we did in Technology in primary school and that shows that you get more opportunities in secondary school than in primary school.

Day 1 , Day 2 & Day 3 Secondary School Experience

It was so fun, Mr Hazelton made science really fun, we made paper change colour. It was my favourite part of the day. We also had maths, pastoral care, and peer support. Secondary school is so much different to primary but way more fun. I like change and secondary school is a big change but that is good.

*wish* I could have participated better in maths.

Day 2 PDHPE was the best subject we got fit and active and we got to talk a lot. Peer support was good to we got play a ball game.

Today was the best so far we got to draw with robots; it was amazing. Also in art we got to make cities with paint. Peer Support was also good. I got to learn a lot more about high school.

Over all reflection: High school is amazing. I’m so glad I got this experience to learn more and talk to high schoolers. I can’t wait until high school because Science, Maths and Tech. I hope one day I will get to do this with other kids when I’m in year 11. I loved secondary school I hade so much fun this week I can’t wait till I’m in secondary school.
