                               Day 2 Review 

My top two things about Day 2 were PDHPE and Peer Support. PDHPE was my  favourite subject for the day. In PDHPE we got to blow up balloons, write on them, pop them and do sport. While doing PDHPE The Awesome Foursome learnt that our teachers are always there to help and support us. I wish all teachers were like that.

In Peer Support we played a game that proved that communication and cooperation can get you the furthest. It was very interesting and enjoyable.

day 3 Secondary Experience

Day 3:

It is the third day of secondary experience and we have improved on a lot of subjects even the ones we have never done before. Today was the last day of the experience but by far the best. We did Art, Technology and Peer Support.

ART:

Art was a lesson full of positive and happy minds as we learnt that when something doesn’t look right you alway have a way to fix what you have made. In art we painted a spooky, abandoned and crooked town which had featured blue, green, white and black buildings. We made this artwork with some simple instructions. First we put blue, green and white paint on the large piece paper we then got some cardboard and whipped it up the page. The second step was to wipe another set of cardboard along the bottom of the paper with some black paint. Finally we added features that made the artwork look more realistic. We think this was one of the key feature of the experience.

Technology:

Technology was a fantastic lesson. We did a lot of different things that made us feel much more grown up. In technology we programmed a Sphero to draw lots of different diagrams. On a Sphero app we programmed the Sphero to turn different angles, go at the right speed needed and and roll for the time wanted this task took a lot of time to perfect but at the end we all got a good result. We as a group think this was one of the best tasks set and can’t wait until we get to do Technology in Secondary.

Peer support 3:

Today was the last Peer Support this week which meant it was the last time to ask about starting Secondary. This time in peer support we did a few thing we wouldn’t usually do. The year 11’s set a new task. We had to write down 3 question to ask the year 11’s, some of which about starting secondary or basic secondary questions. At the end of the interview we wrote down the answers to our questions. All of our questions got answered and we had a great time with the year 11’s. We think it help us realize that secondary is not that bad as we think it is as there are so many exciting and new opportunities in secondary.

Deacon:

My first star about secondary is Technology. My second star is Art and the abandoned buildings we painted. My wish is that Technology would go for longer.

Manvir:

Isla:

My first star about secondary is definitely Technology because it gives you a better understanding of devices and thing that use electricity. My second star has to be Art because it taught us that you can alway fix a artwork even if it looks impossible. My wish is to improve and get better in art.

Tom:

My first star about secondary is Technology because is my personal favourite and you get to use the Sphero and the app to use it. My second star has to go to Art – it my favourite because you get to paint abandonment towers, bridges and different types of roofs.

Reflection 3:

We as a group we have had a awesome time although we wish it went a little longer than a week. The classes were a great experience and we all learnt something new we all felt a little older as we went from class to class, did different subjects and played with Spheros. We think that to make a successful change to secondary school we need all the students to show there capabilities to there work, uniform and language. We also think that secondary should be aiming to the best of there abilities at all times.

Secondary Experience – Day Three

Today was really fun,.  My favourite part was Technology with Ms Sackey. We programmed spheros to make a shape or picture on a big piece of paper. We also did Art, and Peer Support. I have never gotten to do anything like what we did in Technology which shows that you get much more opportunities in high school.

In Art with Mr Watts, we painted a spooky, abandoned, city, with blue, white, black, and green paint.

In Peer Support we did a Question and Answer. I asked the questions “what was the hardest thing you thought would be going into secondary school and was it? How do you keep your assignments and homework organized? What is the best thing about high school?

 

Life in secondary school

Day 1

SCIENCE   

In science we did some experiments on household chemicals…
First we made a solution consisting of Turmeric & methylated spirits

Then using an eyedropper we put it on a piece of toilet paper, then let it dry. We then cut it into four pieces.
Next we dipped one into bicarbonate Soda and the other into vinegar.

It was different because…

Tilly Fisher’s opinion: I really enjoyed science it showed all the different reactions to all the chemicals. It shows how high school science uses different experiments to juniors schools.

Harper Thompson:I feel like I am about to go into secondary school because they have been treating us like secondary students but really I’ve still got 1 year and 3 terms till that point.

Mitchell Molloy’s opinion:it was 2000,000% great.the classes are much different and the lessons are much different than primary. The experiment was used to see if paper can change colour.

Kristy Finlay’s opinion: In primary we only get to do very few experiments and even when we do it’s always done by the teachers, so I liked how we all get to do it our own.

Ethan Williamson’s: opinion:It was fun and we got to do it freely without a teacher there and helping you until you are done.

Maths was amazing we made a marble track from a desktop to a cup. We only had 20 minutes.
The marble was quite big & the team that we ended up with really worked well for this activity.I think that doing the activity helps instead of just watching it. It is a very good thing to have change especially in our school and lessons.

Tilly Fisher’s opinion:In the lessons we talked and demonstrated, that if the ramp was lower the marble moved slower.Yet if the ramp was higher the marble traveled faster.

Harper Thompson: Maths was good we built a marble track the marble had to make its way into a plastic cup go

Mitchell Molloy:it was 10K great.we studied how a marble travels through a marble track from a wall to a desktop and then we studied how the different angles changed the way the marble moved throughout the track.

Kristy Finlay: Maths was amazing I loved everything about it, it was different to primary because it was so much harder than stage 3 maths, we did calculus, trigonometry, geometry and so much more.

Pastoral Care

In pastoral Care we focused on some ways that we could go to secondary easily and the good things coming.

How do our teachers support us in secondary school

Kristy Finlay:  In secondary we have the councillors to help us when it is hard, and so far I have realised that they will help us go into secondary school, now I’m really excited

Mitchell Molloy:pastoral care was a 6/10 session.it was in a way strange.the questions that we were asked were kind of…personal.But on the bright side the video and guidelines were helping me immensely.

Tilly Fisher:I really enjoyed the lesson I think that it is great to be able to talk to someone.I wish we had pastoral care in the lower years

Harper Thompson:

Ethan williamson:Pastoral care was fun and fun and we did a heap of work sheets but that part was boring but we watched some videos on moving into high school

Day 2

Day 2

Art: we did a painting of a spooky city.We spent a whole session on it.It was a challenge to do it in that time even though we had stacks of time.In the Challenge we only had cardboard and a paintbrush.

Tilly Fisher’s opinion: I really enjoyed Art my teacher told us that it does not matter if it looks bad just that you tried.And I think it is very good to know that.

Kristy Finlay: I loved art so much and like I have said in most of my reflections there is so much independence.

Mitchell Molloy:1/10.i did not enjoy art as much as I enjoyed the other lessons.the art we did is not the art I enjoy. I could have enjoyed it much more but I didn’t.the art is nowhere near the art I enjoy. I could have had a better time.

Harper Thompson:Art was quite hard but I did it we did have a long time thought was still hard.we had to paint a landscape ofa spo

Day 3

PDHPE
In PDHPE we spoke about changes in our lives like getting money which was definitely a good thing.
But there was also some bad things. In PDHPE we of course played some games, we played a game where we rapidly changing sports.
Ethan williamson: pdhpe was fun ad at the start we did some work in the classroom. but after that we went outside and played,some games boys vs girls and we would play a minute game and if you got the goal you would get a point.

Mitchell Molloy:pdhpe was held as a point competition and whoever wan got a prize which was a chocolate of choice.we did a random activity every time. In this consisted of a random ball game chosen and a number of 2,3,4 or 5 people were chosen to participate and the change was so intensely fast.we also talked about “change” and we popped lots of balloons witch was fantastic but intense and fun.

Harper Thompson:I loved PDHPE. We started off by talking about changes in life and resilience. We then did sport we played a game where ms Jewel put in a ball of some sort if the ball was a basketball we would play basketball if the ball was a hockey ball we would play hockey.

Kristy Finlay: I loved PDHPE it was great to run rond and play all different sports, it was great because we also spoke about change and resilience now I nervous but excited about the changes that are going to come.

Tilly fisher:I really enjoyed the second part of the lesson as well as the first.we talked about change and Resilience. Then went out and played games.In the games we played hockey,netball,basketball,soccer.I think it is better to only play the games for a minute than swap so you never have the same role in it.

ESSENTIAL QUESTION!

How can I successfully make the change to Secondary School?

Kristy Finlay: I think that I can successfully make the change to secondary by getting all my assignments in

Tilly Fisher: I think I can successfully make the channunge to secondary school by meeting my teachers before we go into the

Ethan williamson: i think that into secondary school will be easy and i will be able to go to secondary school. Plus i will have help with everything bye the teachers.

Mitchell Molloy:I think the successful change from primary to secondary is to relax,get homework done and get exams in early. The only way to enjoy secondary is to relax and come to reality comfortably.

Harper Thompson:I think it will be a challenge but it will be a bit of fun moving from class to class.I’ll try and make a good first impression to the teachers.I think some of the lessons will be better than primary lessons.

The Awesome Foursomes week in Secondary School (day 2 Review)

Day 2 Review (By Sarah)
On Day 2 my two favourite things were PDHPE and Peer Support. I liked PDHPE because we got to play sports like hockey, Netball, Basketball and Soccer. We got to run around and work as a team. I also liked Peer Support because we got to throw tennis balls to people and try to catch them.

Day 1 Secondary Experience

Day 1:

Today our group spent the day in secondary. We did lots of work we wouldn’t usually do in primary, we spent the day doing Maths, Science, Pastoral Care and Peer Support.

Science:
Science was a very different experience as we don’t usually do science experiments. We learnt that everyday ingredients and objects are ACIDIC substances and BASIC substances. For our experiment we added Turmeric and methylated spirits then we put the mix on a piece of toilet paper which turned it yellow.We then cut the toilet paper into two strips.In the second cup we added bicarbonate soda and water.We put the first strip of paper into the second cup and watched it turn a different colour then we put the second strip of paper in to the vinegar cup and watched as it turned different colours. We think this experiment was fascinating and exciting as it was exciting when the toilet paper turned a different colour.

Maths:
Maths was a great experience it was different because things were harder and and we used much more mathematical words. We did a interesting marble run and used paper to form into a tube for the marble to run down then we used cups for the marble to start in and finish in. We learnt that if things are on slopes they go faster and if they are flat or straight they go slower. In the whole experience we found out that we used geometry, trigonometry, measurement, change of rate/calculus and linear relationships in the marble run. We think that this was the best maths experiment ever and can’t wait until we get to secondary.

Pastoral Care:
In Pastoral Care we did a series of placing ourselves on a better and worse scale of going to high school. Pastoral Care is a very calm and safe place as it teaches us to never doubt ourselves and if so to go speak to someone like a counsellor, relative, teacher or friend. In our lesson we filled out a worksheet that asked us about our social life on technology. We then watched a short video of some different mindsets from kids who are starting secondary. This helped us to be more confident about our feelings.

Peer Support 1:
Peer support is a great way to get to know some of the people in secondary such as the year 11’s. In peer support we did a game to help our communication. The aim of the game was to run up to Bronte (one of the year 11’s) who had a list of objects and animals she would then tell us one thing at a time on the list and we would have to make it out of playdoh. The person who guesses what it is first has the next go of forming the playdoh. We think this game was a excellent way of communication.

Deacon:
My first star goes to the Science experiment. My second star goes to Peer Support and my wish is for more Technology.

Manvir:
My first star is Maths. My second star is Science. And I wish we could do more Science.

Isla:
My first star has got to go to Science it was so fun mixing all the substance like turmeric, methylated spirits, bicarbonate soda and other substances together. My second star goes to Pastoral Care because it was so calm and safe and it taught us a lot of different things we could do about being scared of going to secondary. My wish is that our subjects would go for longer.

Tom:
My first star goes to Science because it’s great to be a scientist. My second star goes to Maths because you get to make a marble run. I wish that during secondary I could learn more things and get better at all subjects.

Reflection 1:
We as a group we think that the day was great and taught us a lot. We think that when we get to secondary school we will already have a feel of what it will look like and that it will always have a positive and negative side about it. That is why we think that by listening and respecting each other we could set an example to other secondary kids and sooner or later make a successful change to secondary school.

Secondary School Experience – Day Two

I enjoyed my second secondary experience day. PDHPE was really fun, we talked about all the changes that are going to happen in the next few years and how we can cope with them. In the sport section everyone had a lot of fun and was very excited about the fact that we will get to do that in high school. I think PDHPE is a good time to share any troubles I have about school and studies. I think this will help me cope with all the studying and troubles of high school.

We also did peer support, in peer support we played a ball game in the same groups as day one. We were practicing the skills of concentration, teamwork, and communication.

Peer Support
The second time we did Peer Support, we threw a tennis ball to someone and we had to remember them and continue the pattern. Then the Year Elevens threw in more balls and it got harder so we started to drop them. It was really fun and a challenge. In the end this subject told us that communication gets us further.

Peer Support

On a scale of 1 to 10 it was a 8. We played a game where we had to make a picture out of playdough we did it in a group of Year 6 boys, year 6 girls, year 5 boys and year 5 girls. We also in the same groups and throw a ball and kept adding them in.

Science

Science on a scale of 1-10 it is about a 9 on the scale. In science we did a experiment using toilet paper. We used methylated spirits, vinegar, water, test paper, bicarbonate soda and turmeric. We combined our methylated spirits, 1 teaspoon of turmeric. Then we used the mixture and put it on the piece of toilet paper which was on a plastic plate. We put the bicarbonate soda and 4 cm of water together. We put a piece of yellow toilet paper together and saw what happened. We put vinegar in a cup and put another piece of toilet paper in the vinegar. Nothing happens with the vinegar. We then used the test paper. We got a strip of test paper and put it in the bicarb, it turned green. We then put another strip of paper in the vinegar and it turned a pink red colour.

Maths

In maths we got to make a tunnel with 2 plastic cups, sticky tape and cardboard. They had to carry a marble and move the fastest that it could. We got to design it. We did parts of trigonometry and geometry.  It was so fun and we got lollipops at the end of it and we got to work together and no arguments.

Technolgy

Technology was really fun. On a scale of 1-10 was was a definitely a 10. We got to use these robots called Spheros. We were coding it to make a shape – it was so fun. We changed the colour, the speed, sound, we could make it speak, change the direction and much,much more.

 

Peer Support

Peer support Day 1
In Peer Support, we had to guess what the other person was trying to make with playdoh. It was really hard because you couldn’t give the people guessing any clues. The year elevens were helping us work together as a group. We had lots of fun. I can’t wait for tomorrow’s Peer Support.
